In a rare Winnipeg appearance, acclaimed Montreal author/actor/musician Norman Nawrocki, performs his new anti-fascist, solo theatre piece,
CAZZAROLA! Anarchy, Mussolini, the Roma, Italy today.
Nawrocki plays several characters in this gripping, 40 minute, one-act, docu-drama about a 1926 anarchist assassination attempt on Mussolini, Italian suit-and-tie Fascism, and the current Italian backlash against visible minority immigrants, specifically Roma refugees. It’s also a love story about an Italian boy and a Roma girl from Romania. The play is based on his newest unpublished novel of the same name. Both were inspired by recent tours of Italy (2007/2008) to promote the Italian translation and publication of one of his earlier books, L ‘Anarchico e il diavolo fanno cabaret’ (Il Sirente, Rome 2007), The Anarchist & The Devil Do Cabaret (Black Rose Books, Montreal 2003).
(The play will be followed by a book launch of Nawrocki’s newest collection of poetry: DINNER for DISSIDENTS.)
